Southern California footwear stores, heavily reliant on sneakers imported from China, are concerned about the potential negative impact of new tariffs from the Trump administration. Dom Deluca, owner of Brooklyn Projects, fears the tariffs could be fatal for his business due to anticipated wholesale price increases from vendors. He has already had to raise prices on some skateboards and expects a significant hit on sneaker sales, which is his top seller, as most U.S. footwear and apparel are imported from Asia, with Nike shoes at his store being made in China. Deluca believes the tariffs will severely erode his already thin profit margins, potentially leading to losses after covering expenses.
