People in the late 90s went absolutely bonkers about Y2K. They stockpiled canned goods like there was going to be a global apocalypse, built underground bunkers, and even started teaching their pets how to barter for food. It was like everyone suddenly became a survivalist expert, convinced that computers were going to take over and turn us all into zombie slaves.

It was a collective case of mass hysteria!
