We're about to journey into a galaxy of Black excellence! Lanny Smoot, the mastermind behind Disney's live-action lightsaber, is set to be honored by the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
25 years ago, Smoot joined Disney, and now, this creative dynamo boasts over 100 patents, including the iconic extendable lightsaber and other magical innovations like the HoloTile floor and interactive koi ponds at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
But the excitement doesn't end there! Smoot is cooking up more inventions, promising a patent parade. The National Inventors Hall of Fame will induct him in a star-studded ceremony on May 9, putting him in the same league as Walt Disney himself.
Fast forward 60 years from Disney's golden age, Smoot's passion for inventing is stronger than ever. With 106 patents and counting, his impact on theatrical technologies and special effects earns him a spot in the 2024 National Inventors Hall of Fame.
